Success in Southampton

 5th Dec 2008

The results for the NEBOSH ( National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) General Certificate exams in Southampton have just been announced, with a 100% pass rate and seven distinctions and three credits.

All delegates were trained by Connaught Compliance Training Services, previously known as CHSS, and the exams took place in September. Training and exams took place at the Connaught Compliance Training Centre at Botleigh Grange Hotel in Hedge End.

Doug MacKenzie, a Project Safety Manager from defence and security tecnology company QinetiQ in Farnborough was one of the seven who achieved a distinction. He found the course particularly wide-ranging and the teaching invaluable to him, as he comments:

"I sat the NEBOSH General Certificate to support me in a new role as Project Safety Manager. The course was very comprehensive and gave me a very useful and broad understanding of the management of health and safety in the workplace.

"I found the teaching style effective, with my knowledge challenged to identify any gaps. The course was well-balanced and the practical assessment provided an opportunity for me to put the learning into practice in my own workplace.

"I was delighted with a Distinction, and the information continues to be of value in my current role, where I also have an environmental remit, so my next training priority will be an IEMA-accredited course in Environmental Management."

Training is high on the agenda for some of the UK 's most senior business figures who recently published an open letter in many national daily newspapers, warning that cutting staff training budgets was a "false economy". The letter which was signed by CBI director-general stated that "Investing now in building new skills will put us in the strongest position as the economy recovers. From our experience in previous downturns, it was the businesses that did invest in their staff that saw the most dynamic recovery."
