Connaught Consultants with specialist expertise in asbestos consultancy can help in ensuring legal compliance and effective worker protection. We carry out an asbestos survey in compliance with the revised Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006. These regulations Increase worker protection by reducing exposure limits and introduce mandatory training for work for anyone liable to be exposed to asbestos.
A key requirement of the Regs is to analyse the concentration of asbestos in the air with measurements in accordance with the 1997 World Health Organisation recommended method This involves 3 types of survey dependent on the amount of asbestos that is thought to be present:
Type 1: Presumptive Survey, Location and Assessment
The location and condition of suspected asbestos materials is undertaken. but no samples are taken.
Type 2: Sampling Survey
The purpose of this survey is to positively identify whether a material contains asbestos. Thus a comprehensive survey of the building is undertaken (as for type 1) but samples of suspected asbestos containing material (ACM) are physically taken and sent for analysis. This will identify the type of asbestos present (if any).
Type 3: Full access sampling and identification
For this type of survey, the aim is to identify and analyse all asbestos within a building. This can involve destructive inspection, removing panels and accessing hard-to-reach areas. This is normally undertaken prior to demolition or major refurbishmant in order to accurately tender for removal.
