CHSS provide a wide range of fire consultancy services in light of the new fire safety regulations and Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations. Fire
In October of 2006 the law relating to fire changed throughout the UK and introduced new responsibilities for employers to ensure that the fire risk their premises was minimised. This new law replaces the previous requirement for fire certificates and the emphasis is now upon the employer rather than the fire authorities.
Fire Risk Assessment
An employer should be competent person who has been suitably trained for example on the NEBOSH Fire Certificate to assist the employer by undertaking the fire risk assessment. CHSS can undertake the risk assessment or train staff as competent people to carry it out. The assessment will be documented and consider:
- the fire loading and means of minimisation
- fire detection
- for evacuation
- firefighting
- building design
- emergency arrangements

Explosion
Risk assessments to address the requirements of Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations
The DSEAR legislation now applies to all existing processes in organisations and exemptions no longer apply. This now affects practically all organisations dealing with dangerous substances. Let our experts in DSEA help you comply with the regulations.
A dangerous substance can include any of the following:
- Flammable substances: petrol, aerosols, paints
- Gases: hydrogen, butane, propane, LPG
- Powders: flour, custard, fertilisers, dust from sanding
- Other Chemicals: peroxides, oxidisers, acetylene
- Solids: compost, haystacks, spontaneous combustibles

What do we do?
We complete a Hazardous Area Classification (HAC) & zoning. We carry out a Risk Assessment and produce an Explosive Protection Document. We help you to put your emergency planning arrangements in place. We can assist you in providing information and training on DSEAR to employees in your organisation. We provide a comprehensive report detailing Materials on site which could give rise to a flammable atmosphere; the results of Hazardous Area Classification, indicating the type and extent of zones identified and Recommendations to address the risks identified during the assessment.
