In October of 2006 the law relating to fire changed throughout the UK and introduced new responsibilities for employers to ensure that the fire risk their premises was minimised. This new law replaces the previous requirement for fire certificates and the emphasis is now upon the employer rather than the fire authorities.

An employer should be competent person who has been suitably trained for example on the NEBOSH Fire Certificate to assist the employer by undertaking the fire risk assessment.
